Clock in and out, location and room codes
Start and end your shift on the phone, what the location notice means, and how to check in to a room by scanning its code.
The Time clock card on Today is where your shift starts and ends.
Clock in and out#
- When you start work, open the app and tap Clock in on Today. The card shows Clocked in since and the time.
- When you finish, tap Clock out.
Clocking in and out needs a connection. If you forgot to clock in or out, don't worry: ask for a fix in My hours, and a manager will correct it.
Location while clocked in#
Your organization may have turned on location while clocked in. It is off unless they did. If it is on, when you clock in you see your organization's notice, Location while clocked in, explaining what is shared.
- I have read this and accept: while you are clocked in, the app shares which building you are in (or which named outdoor area, like the parking lot). Your manager sees the building, not a dot on a map.
- Not now: you stay clocked in as normal. Your location is not shared until you accept. You can read the notice again later from the time clock card.
If your organization changes the notice, you are asked to read and accept it again.
What is and isn't shared
- Only while you are clocked in. Nothing is shared when you are clocked out.
- Your phone's exact GPS position is used only to work out the building or area, and is not stored.
- On Android, a notification stays on your screen the whole time location is being shared, so you always know.
- Location records are deleted after the number of days your organization chose (30 unless they changed it). Your hours are kept.
The time clock card shows the current state: Sharing which building you're in, Sharing location only while the app is open, Location permission is off on this phone, or Location is not shared. Your phone will ask for location permission; you can say no, and you can still clock in.
Scan a room code#
Rooms can have a printed code by the door. Scanning it tells your manager exactly which room you are in, only at that moment, and only because you chose to scan.
The Scan a room code button appears while you are clocked in and sharing location (your organization has it on, you accepted the notice, and location is allowed on the phone).
- Clock in.
- On the time clock card, tap Scan a room code. Allow the camera the first time.
- Point the camera at the code by the door. The app says Checked in: and the room name.
If it says "That code is not one of your organization's rooms", it's a code from somewhere else; tap Scan again. Scanning with your phone's normal camera app only opens a page telling you to use the Operacora app.
Managers: to print codes, see Room codes. To turn location on or off, see Location while clocked in.
