Every job has one or more categories, such as Plumbing, Electrical, Doors and locks, Painting, IT or Snow and ice. A category has a name, an icon and a colour, and it shows on job cards and as the icon on map pins.

The Categories page: a list of categories with icons and colours, labelled Built-in or Added by your organization, an Add category button, and a search box for icons.
Settings › Categories.

How categories get on a job#

  • When a job comes in, Operacora suggests categories from the words in it, in English and Spanish ("leak", "fuga" → Plumbing). Suggested ones are marked AUTO.
  • Any manager can change a job's categories on its page with Change categories. A job can have several.
  • Workers can't change categories.

Jobs also have a type of work: Repair, Install / build, Project, Setup / move, Inspection or Request. It is suggested the same way, and any manager can change it on the job page.

Change the list#

Only top-level managers can change the list, in Settings › Categories:

  • Add a category: press Add category, give it a name, search the icon library (for example "chair", "truck" or "snow"), and pick a colour.
  • Keywords: add the words that should suggest it, up to 60 keywords of up to 40 characters each. Include the words your people actually use, in every language they use.
  • Rename or re-icon a built-in category to match your words.
  • Archive a category you don't use. Archived categories are no longer suggested or offered for new jobs, but stay on the jobs that already have them. Nothing is ever deleted, and you can restore an archived category.

If two managers edit the list at once, the second one is told the list changed and sees the latest, so nobody's changes are lost.

The icons come from an open-source library of more than a thousand simple line icons, so there is a fitting one for almost anything.
